Like other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they employ smart mapping technology to design precise floor plans and eliminate common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure cleaner and more efficient cleaning. robot vacuum reviews modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on various flooring and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competitors' compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable, but it's going to cost you more and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time, though this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they are.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
